CHAIRMAN'S CHATTER
Chairman's Chatter is compiled quarterly by our Chairman John Shaw. John summarizes the latest developments in the club covering general news, exhibition reports, developments in the clubs  layouts, and any other notices. Chairman’s Chatter

Thanks to Clive for organising our day at Twyford Water works where 6 of us attended and carried out modelling.

00 Gauge Matters

Running Evenings

Running evenings are in progress around the mainlines and through the fiddle yards. Trains have also traversed sections of the Romsey Branch.

Upcoming Appearances at Model Railway Exhibitions with Redbridge as follows:

-The Southampton Model Railway Exhibition at Barton Peveril College in January 2019

-The Fareham Railex in October 2019

Work in Progress

Work continues on most aspects of the layout including work on the:

  • Control systems, development continues. Fiddle Yard trackwork has been “coloured” to easily identify the relative routes.
  • Grass/roads etc. scenic Sections. Extensive work at several locations at the down and up ends.
  • Platforms. The down platform has been modified at the rear end to enable long wheelbase coaches or freight trucks to travel through the crossover.
  • Ballasting of the trackwork has been revised on several tracks (differing to mainlines and several differences in the yards).
  • “Railings” are being installed to protect entry to tracks
  • Buildings etc. The drying shed has agreed that it will be extended in length. As new prototype photograph has also been received. 
  • The “large” Brice & White Timber Shed is under construction. The Creosote Plant narrow gauge tracks are complete.
  • The “Water”. The Wharf wall is complete and other aspects are being completed.  Included are spaces for boats & shipping. The Timber Pond is almost complete. The ramp to the pond is in place. Once the final waterside items are fixed, the water can be added.
  • Fiddle yard colour coding complete

EM gauge matters

Mawgan Porth is re-erected and a few minor changes are being put in place at the fiddle yard to protect stock etc. The layout has been invited to the Crawley MRC show at Horsham for 13th and 14th April 2019.

 
0 Gauge matters

Work ceased for a while to allow Winterley Junction to be erected and tested.

Working WInterley Junction under exhibition conditions at Romsey exposed errors  that did not occur in the clubroom. Intensive running is a must before exhibiting if possible!

 

Other Business.

I am aware that we may have a visit from our founder member, Ken Coulter who is once again back in the country for a few days. The date may be 6th or 7th July.

More details when the visit is confirmed.


Future Events:

Wednesday 10th October Annual General Meeting at 7.45 in the clubroom.
