Jan 2020 Chairman’s Chatter A Happy New
Modelling Year to you all. There are a lot of
exhibition commitments in the early part of 2020 so please put them in your
diaries now.
00 Gauge Matters Work on both semaphore and colour light signalling continues. It is envisaged all signalling will be complete for Romsey but not necessarily working. Siding 18 in the Fiddle Yard has been
extended slightly to accommodate the Military train comfortably. A revised sequence has been written and
will be tested in the New Year. This sees the introduction of the P.I.C.O.R
role (Person In Charge Of Reception), with an increased usage of the Reception
roads and interaction between the Signaller and now single Yard Shunter. A
briefing will follow on completion of a dry run of the new sequence. Work is in progress to provide a second
computer screen to display the sequence, to improve viewing for Operators at either
end of the layout. The use of CCTV or mirrors for seated Operators is not being
explored at this time. A programming track has been installed
in the Fiddle Yard adjacent to Sidings 21 and 22 (Totton end). This gives us
the ability to programme decoders at the club room using the dedicated
programming track function on the NCE Pro, which is safer and much more comprehensive than
"Programming on the Main" as we were doing previously. Former Treasurer Maurie Graves'
Merchant Navy loco no. 35011, part of the club collection, has been upgraded by
Tony and converted to DCC by Rich. Research continues into new trains and
traffic patterns for the 1965-67 era we plan to run at Romsey.
Materials have been purchased for the
construction of barriers and end-of-layout information panels. End boards have
also been revised for R1, R2, L1 and the Romsey board. The end information display boards have
been constructed and form part of the storage solution for the long flexible
backscene boards. A storage and transport box for the 4 shorter backscene
boards has also been built.
EM gauge matters The layout has suffered from
effectively having been in storage for some time. It has been fun locating
various layout components to bring it back to life. Work has been done on changing loco and
rolling stock couplings to make them more compatible with one another. Track
and point work have been cleaned and locos also need attention to improve
operation. After this buildings and scenery will
need tidying up. Much thanks to members for their
involvement and help.
Baseboard 8 has
now been replaced on several occasions to allow testing for all of Abbotstone.
A thorough clean of the town area was carried out whilst damage to a point
motor was completed on baseboard six. The layout has been tested in Analogue
and DCC modes. Other Business. Please note the date of the dinner as I shall be
sending out menus etc. imminently. The usual list of our
Exhibition commitments is also attached with some new additions. Please note
the dates in your diaries and think about your personal commitment to the
layout outing
